Move-In Cleaning: What to Clean Before You Unpack

The best time to deep clean a home is when it is completely empty. No furniture to move, no boxes in the way, every corner in reach. Before you unpack a single box in your new Lexington home, this is what to clean first.
Start high, finish low
Dust and dirt fall downward, so clean from the top down. Ceiling fans, light fixtures, and the tops of door frames first, then shelves and counters, then floors last.
Do it in that order and you only clean each surface once. Do it backwards and you will be re-cleaning floors all day.
The kitchen, inside and out
Whoever lived here before is gone, but their crumbs are not. Clean inside every cabinet and drawer, inside the oven, and inside the fridge before you store a single thing.
Wipe the range, the hood, and the backsplash. Run an empty cycle in the dishwasher. Now your kitchen is truly yours.
Bathrooms get a full reset
Scrub the toilet, tub, and shower, grout included. Disinfect every surface someone else used. Wipe out the vanity and medicine cabinet before your things go in.
An empty bathroom is the easiest one you will ever clean, so do it right while you have the chance.
Floors and walls while they are bare
Empty rooms are the only time you can clean baseboards, corners, and closet shelves without working around furniture. Wipe the walls where you can, vacuum the closets, and mop every hard floor.
If the home has carpet, this is the ideal moment for a deep carpet clean, before the furniture goes down.
Short on time during a move?
Moving is chaos, and a full clean is the last thing you want to add to the day. We handle move-in and move-out cleans built around this exact checklist, so you walk into a home that is truly fresh.
